MATCH REPORT – 12th July 2015
Strikers hot despite the cold
The Singleton Strikers rugged up and travelled to First Division newcomers Kahibah on Sunday, but the Concepts Controls First Grade team shrugged off the cold to continue their hot form with a deserving 2 nil win.
The Betts Bower Haulage U17’s knew they were in for a tough game against second placed Kahibah and so it proved. The cold, blustery conditions were not conducive to a high quality game, but Kahibah appeared the hungrier of the teams and run our 0-2 winners
The Viatek U19’s made a dint in the semi final aspirations of their Kahibah opponents when they were able to secure a 1-1 draw.
The U19’s have struggled to find the consistency required to be a force in the competition this year, but they adapted to the conditions the better of the 2 teams, and were ably led by inspirational captain Tyler Felsch who scored the Strikers all important goal.
The ATC Williams U23’s were looking to continue their recent run of good form, but unfortunately they left their best games at home, and recorded an insipid 1-3 loss. In truth, the Reggies were never in the hunt and seemed a step off the pace the whole game.
Dan Murphy’s goal for the U23’s was little consolation for a side soundly beaten.
The Concept Controls First Grade team were without attacking dynamo Lloyd Wakewood who was suspended for this game, but neutral observers would not have noticed as the Strikers took control early.
However, this early dominance was short lived and Kahibah made good use of their first half wind advantage to dominate field position and went on a sustained period of attack.
But the Singleton defence – ably lead by UK imports central defenders Jordan Phelan and Stephen Bramley and goal keeper Stuart Plant – held firm and seemed to revel in the conditions, which they described as a ‘summers day in England’
It remained 0-0 at half time, and with the Strikers having the howling wind at their backs in the second half, hopes were high.
The second half went to plan……the Strikers dominating field position on the attack, and Kahibah struggling to clear their lines.
The pressure finally told, and the Concept Controls Strikers took a deserving lead through the pacey Rob Field.
Soon after, the Strikers put the issue beyond doubt when prolific goal poacher Jackson Cox scored his 11th goal of the campaign.
The win confirms the Strikers as one of the form teams in the competition at the moment, and keeps their semi final aspirations on track.
