MATCH REPORT – 2nd August 2015

Dare to dream……..

The Singleton Strikers continued their charge for the semi finals with a comprehensive 4-1 thumping of Toronto Awaba last Sunday. With results around the grounds also going in their favour, the Concept Controls First team are now just one win away from semi final action.

The equation is simple. The Strikers must beat West Wallsend away next weekend, and rely on Lake Macquarie defeating Kahibah……..if the results fall that way……they are through.

An unseasonally warm August morning greeted the Betts Bower Haulage U17’s in the day’s first game.

The U17’s will finish the season mid table in their first year of senior football, and they showed their potential with a 4-0 demolition of Toronto.

The youngest Strikers have shown glimpses during the year that indicate a positive future for this team, and goals to Hamish Mayled, Cashlin Murray-Mell, Dan Bray, and skipper William Holz stamped their authority over Toronto.

The Viatek U19’s season has been disappointing and Singleton vs Toronto was 2nd last vs last in a battle to avoid the wooden spoon.

The game ended as a 1-1 draw with Tully Winsor scoring the all important goal for the Strikers……securing a draw that should be enough to see Singleton avoid the wooden spoon.

The ATC Williams U23’s hot and cold season continued with a narrow 1 nil loss to Toronto the latest in a below par performance against beatable opposition.

The Concept Controls First Grade game was a must win for Singleton, who recognised it as a danger game after Toronto had stunned the Strikers early in the season. But the in-form Strikers showed why no team wants to face them in the semi finals with a comprehensive 4-1 win.

Goals to James Bates, Lloyd Wakewood and a brace to the prolific Jackson Cox blew away the opposition, whose consolation goal was tinged with controversy after a blatant foul on goal keeper Stuart Plant.

The win keeps the Strikers well and truly in the hunt for a semi final berth.

They need other results to go in their favour to qualify with just 1 round to go……but rest assured, no other team will want to face the Strikers in this form.
